Yep. Sketches (above) are first then once we have a design I can give you a firm quote. Then we can adjust – if you want to see color variations, bigger size, more hooks, etc.
    Thanks!

  3. Hi Jac and happy Memorial day !
I ‘m leaning towards “D”. I like the simplistic lines of the rack. Could you find some old looking hooks ?
What will the wood be for the rack ? Any ideas ? Would you paint it , what if you find an old piece of wood from a boat or aged furniture that might be cool. Let me know what you think ?
Anyway, we have an idea of where to go from here.
    Thanks,
    Dianne

    Dianne,

If you want an ‘old’ board we can manufacture one to look old. I was thinking we’d add some bead or machined detail to the edges to finish it a bit. What color would you like the back-board? Do you still want the Mermaid all green or painted more natural (skin tone)?

As far as hooks are concerned we can hand-forge some here that look old or I can order some from a blacksmith friend (www.nathansforge.com). It will be slightly cheaper if we make them, but the detail would be higher if the smithy does.

    Just let me know!

    Happy Memorial Day!

  5. Hey Jac,
I just got back from an artist retreat in La Junta CO. My art teacher has a friend who owns a ranch there. Lots af mesas, horses, cows ,cowboys and gals. I’m so in love w/ water color but I’m just starting….I so admire you guys for what you do and your creative passion ! I hope someday to get good at it.
Back to the Mermaid . Fine for you to make the hooks. Love the idea about bead work or even shells. What ever you think would give it more of a finished look. As far as color for the back board either stained or a weathered ocean color ? What do you think ? For the mermaid ….really depends on cost. This is a real treat for me doing some thing like this so I do have to watch what I spend.
Hope ya’ll had a nice weekend and holiday. I assume you were working.
Take care and thanks for you suggestions.

    Dianne,

Sorry for the delay. The creative passion to do this type of thing is the easy part. The hard part is finding the time and energy to handle all the ancillary tasks. Its fun and enjoyable to design a new line of flower wall carvings (which I just finished doing!) but remembering to order saw blades and steel components and cost estimate jobs always seem to end up last on the to-do list. I’d be perfectly happy if someone would just pay us to sit and be creative. But unfortunately it seems like once we get an idea someone, somewhere then expects us then to actually create it. ;-)

As for your idea – I think we can create your Mermaid coat rack 40″ long with the details from above for about $600 plus shipping. If you want the Mermaid to be painted more ‘natural’ (skin-tones etc) it will be $650 plus shipping.

If the price fits your budget we can send color sticks for you to pick the back board color or you can send us some and we’ll match it.

Hope you had a great Holiday weekend and look forward to working with you!
    Jac
